Beat Exercise Boredom with Rad Beats

There are those days when it requires divine intervention to muster the motivation to cruise to the gym. On these days (which usually coincide with pushing the snooze button 8 times and having a bad hair day), it takes all the coercion, pep-talking, cajoling and willpower to get there. We are oh-too-familiar with the feeling, but have gotten fairly comfortable with getting our butts in the workout zone (even if it makes us a little grumpy at times). Ironically, it is on these days that the accomplishment of getting to the gym does not cut it. On these days, the sauna beckons us, social gym-talkers (you know who you are) become our new friends and water fountain breaks turn into lunch breaks. Yep, it’s true. So, because we all have snooze button/bad hair/gym lag days, we’ve found the most consistent solution to kick boredom and ADHD square in the pants: kick-ass music.

Here’s our prime selection of jams to fuel each type of workout you might be getting yourself into. You might just have a new reason to skip the snooze and sweat it out to these hot tracks (we do, at least!)

The “slow and steady” workout
Slow sets of movements performed with control and focus, including strength training and Pilates. Here are our go-to’s:

  • Drive it Like You Stole It by The Glitch Mob
  • No Diggity by Blackstreet
  • Bounce by Timbaland

The “kill me during the chorus” interval workout
Fast paced resting zones interspersed with double tempo chorus interval bursts. Our recommendations will push you through.

  • Feel It by Tiesto  feat. Three 6 Mafia
  • Take Over Control by Afrojack
  • Simply Unstoppable by Tinie Tempeh

The “I need a miracle to get me through” workout
Jams you can cling to when you’re on your last leg (literally):

  • Good Feeling by Flo Rida
  • Where Have You Been by Rihanna
  • Like I Love You by Justin Timberlake

The “I must have anger issues” workout
Ideal for the workout that might be linked to a foul day at work, a recent breakup or other not-so-pleasant occasions. Melt that anger (or at least have fun doing it) with these tunes.

  • Killing in the Name by Rage Against the Machine
  • Faint by Linkin Park
  • Bangarang by Skrillex

That should be enough musical ammunition to help you plow through any type of workout your little heart desires. Send us your comments and feedback, too! We love music and would absolutely adore hearing which tracks guide you through your very own gym adventures.
